Need replacement battery for a PowerShot SX530 HS that actually fits

I inherited a Canon Powershot SX530HS for my Yearbook class, and there was no battery with it. I have purchased replacements, but they seem wrong- the charging contacts are on the wrong side, and the battery gets hung up on insert and stuck.

I have tried three different brands of replacement battery now, and they are all wrong.

It SHOULD be the NB-6LH, but those don't fit/match.

Suggestions? Thoughts? Am I insane?

Thats the battery listed on the support portal for the SX530.

Its out of stock on Canon USA. In Stock at B&H

Not sure where you are located, but if you have a SX530, that is the battery Canon lists as compatible.

As Rick says, that seems to be the correct battery.

Have you looked in the battery compartment to see if there are any obstructions? Canon usually has a "catch" to prevent the battery from falling out, is that causing issues? Try putting in the battery both ways.

At the risk of asking the obvious, but given you say the contacts appear to be on the wrong side, have you tried rotating the battery 180deg? Generally, batteries only fit in one way, but some are pretty close to being able to fit in, despite that.
Failing that, if you can take a photo (with a call phone for example) of the battery compartment interior while checking there is not damage to it that might stop a batter from being inserted.

We have tried to insert the battery in other ways, yes. It goes in only one way, and it sticks up just slightly and is very difficult to get in and out. On inspection with a strong light, there seems to be a spring? A crook of bent wire in the bottom of the battery compartment. Maybe it should flatten when the battery goes in??

Yes it should, I believe that is what pushes the battery out when you slide the catch out of the way so you can grab it with your fingers.
