Unable to transfer sound from MVX10i to my computer video is fine

I have been gifted a Canon Camcorder the model is MVX10i Although in camera I can playback video and sound on both card and tape I find I am not able to transfer the audio to my computer. I can transfer and find the files using either direct connection USB or using a card reader using either connection method only the video is found no audio. Platform is Windows XP sp3 The card is a 1Gb sd in an adaptor.

I would be grateful if anyone could help.
