VIXIA HF G40 automatically zooms out when I zoom in

So I still own my G40, and I am having an issue when I zoom in. It automatically zooms out. This happens randomly. This is the same issue with the ring. I tried compressed air, and it stopped, but it still comes back. Is it time to take it to an authorized Canon repair for a cleaning? I like this camera as it is the last to support AVCHD. I have an XF-405, but I like to take it to normal places because of its size.

Your thoughts, please.

It sounds like your VIXIA HF G40 is experiencing "phantom zooming," which is usually caused by debris or oxidation inside the rocker switch or the lens ring's sensor. While the compressed air provided a temporary fix, the fact that the issue keeps returning suggests that there is likely a persistent buildup or a thinning of the internal lubricants that requires a more thorough, professional cleaning. Because this is happening randomly with both the rocker and the ring, it could also point to a communication error on the internal flexible circuit board that handles zoom commands.

I have checked and unfortunately, our service facility no longer repairs or services the VIXIA HF G40 camcorder per the camcorder reaching the end of its service life. An alternative option may be to see if you are eligible for the Canon Upgrade Program.

It started doing this 2 months ago, and there has to be an authorized repair I can go to. I know it is EOL as to why the repair center in Irvine won't be able to do anything for it. hence a local authorized repair shop. 😜 I already have an XF-405. I was just hoping to use this G40 a little longer, as I do baby it.I can't afford an upgrade and I am not a fan of recording in mp4 as I love how much better video quality is in AVCHD. I wonder why they stopped making cameras that do AVCHD.
