VIXIA HF G40 Trouble with Start Stop button

One of my frequent mistakes is that I press the start/stop button with the intention of capturing an important event.

Only to find out later I actually STOPPED recording and missed the scene completely, leaving two unimportant scenes (floor, grass, my feet, the ceiling) for me.

Why is there not a SEPARATE start and stop button? Is there a software solution for this, that would inhibit stopping a recording, only if pressed twice for instance?

Please start by telling us what camera model you have. Then we can try to make suggestions, which may help you. Don't beat yourself up cameras take practice 🙂

Rookie mistake...! Apologies.

I use five CANON HF-G40 camcorders for recording video.
