Curious if the Vixia G50 will take the 256GB card.

When I bought the camera 128GB cards were supported,

Yes it will. When I owned a Vixia G50, I used two SanDisk 256 GB UHS-I cards with it and didn't have any issues.

Make sure you use full-sized cards from a reputable brand and purchased from a reputable source (to avoid counterfeit cards).

I have used the 256 GB, and have been using 400 GB units for some time now. No issues.
