topic Canon XA10 Microphone Input - is it powered? in Camcorders

Hi all,

I have a client who purchased this camera, and I've gone in to her studio to help with the setup. We're having problems finding the best setup - she's bought a cheapish Lavalier microphone kit (Microline Lavalier kit) which is not giving good audio levels. What I would like to do is hardwire a lavalier microphone into the Mic Input jack, and run a line across the room (roughly 15 feet b/t camera and talent).

I've tried this set up however the microphone I used was not powered. So my question is, does the mic input require a power source on the microphone? I can implement this setup (non-powered lav mic on a long cord) with my Canon 5D MIII without any problems.

Any help would be appreciated. I could implement a battery powered lavalier microphone - and should test that.

Thanks

Kevin Jones
