Vixia HF G20 external mic in AUTO mode

Hi. I just bought a Vixia HF G20 and like it but one thing I can't figure out. When I use an external mic how do I get the audio level indicator to show on the LED Screen in AUTO mode. I know how to do it in M mode and it shows on the screen, but it does not show up on the screen when I am in AUTO mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, I heard back from tech support that you can only see the audio indicator when in M or Cinema mode. Which makes no sense. Why not in AUTO mode, too? I use an external mic often and seeing the indicator alerts me if a battery goes bad in the mic and that I'm picking it up correctly without having to use headphones.

If Canon reads this board, please keep that in mind for the future. I had two other Canon HD cameras where you could see it while in AUTO. Not sure why they chose to exclude it from this one.
