topic Frame rate with the XA30 in Camcorders

Help me out with this if anyone can please.

I understand the shutter speed should be double your frame rate. So when shooting at 30 frames/second, I should be using 60 for a shutter speed. Shooting at 60 frames/second, it should be 120. The problem is the Canon XA30 shutter speed adjusts from 1/60, 1/100, 1/250, etc. How do you get to 1/120 or do you just use 1/100 because it 's the closest you can get?

I'm really trying to get smoother pans at 60 FPS.

Thanks!

~Paul

paulwmiller,

As a general rule of thumb, you want the shutter speed double the frame rate but it's approximate. So you want to get as close as possible, in this case 1/100th would be suitable. Slower shutter will give you smoother motion when playing back, so I don't think you will have any trouble using 1/100th.
