Hi barbhardi,

The file format itself shouldn't change automatically, but the two things that might be causing this are data corruption or the camera losing power or being turned off too quickly after recording. If this is the case, the fixes would be replacing the memory card, being sure to purchase one with a fast read/write speed, and leaving the camera on for a bit after recording so it can finalize the data. How long to leave it on would depend on how long the recording is, but if your church service is a two hour recording, I would probably leave the camera on for about five minutes just to be sure it is able to catch up before losing power.

The Canon Vixia hfr800 that we use at our church sometimes automatically changes from mp4 format to a dat file and then a dmv file. This cuts out the ending of our services. Any idea why it changes? Doesn't do it every time, but it's happening more and more often.
