In my opinion:

If you want to record the speaker only, then an XLR lav mic plugged into a separate recording device, such as a zoom h4n is your ideal scenario.

Second would be a jack lav mic plugged into camera, however requires long long cable, usually not practical.

Third would be a boom mic, again with the G30 you don't have XLR inputs, so you'd need an audio recorder PLUS an extra person to operate boom, probably not practical.

Fourth would be a zoom or other audio recorder on the desk

Finally, the simplest and possibly cheapest (but not the best) would be a shotgun mic on the camera, such as rhode, or the dm-100 from canon.

I use methods 1,4,5 in that order depending on situation, I find having a separate audio recorder is such a massive help with all kinds of video recording, that it was worth getting for many other reasons.
