When I use an external microphone with my R800, what is the depth of the digitized audio? 16-bit? 24-bit?

What processing is applied to the analog audio? Any compression?

Page 268 of the manual only shows "MPEG-2 AAC-LC (2ch)" for audio. No other specifications. I would find it extremely unlikely it would be 24-bit. That's typically only found on professional equipment. Thus, I'd assume this is at most 16-bit.

Thanks, rs-eos. I suspected it's 16-bit. I was hoping for some definitive engineering information from Canon.
