Have you tried manual focus on the G50? See page 54 in the User Manual.

Hello....I do live HD sports streming. I just purchased an HF G50 camcorder. More times than not we are at a baseball/softball field with large wired fences behind the plate and down both 1st & 3rd baselines.

My problem is using the camcorder in "auto" the focusing has a problem shooting through the fence and focusing on a player. Is there a trick to this? I use to set my HF G21 in manual and then foom in on a player in the infield and get them in focus. That worked pretty good until the lighting changed. PLEASE help me with my new G50. I've looked everywhere for videos to help with the focusing. Thanks!

Manual focus is the (only) way to go under such circumstances, even if it means making readjustments.
