topic Vixia HV40 Chimes when LCD screen is open/no display in Camcorders

My camera is circa 2010 but has always worked well. I went to use it and when I open the LCD panel to rewind or play the tape, it just chimes and the display flickers a little at first but then is blank. The viewfinder works fine and the display looks as it should but the LCD panel just won't work. Any recommendations? I have spent so much time trying to research a solution to no avail.
