Hello All,

In order for me to live stream with my Canon Vixia HF R 800 Camcorder can I just hook up the mini-HDMI output to my USB on my Chromebook, OR do I need something else?

I have seen that I might need to get a video capture card. Is this true? If so, what specs should I be looking for in a video capture card to work with Chromebooks?

Thank you.

Hi there,

Most likely a capture card will be necessary. Most computers have HDMI ports which support HDMI output only and will not recognize an input signal. Since Chromebooks are designed with affordability in mind it is very likely your HDMI port is one of these output-only types. A USB video capture device will allow your computer to recognize and HDMI input signal through the USB port. Since Chromebooks use the Chrome OS instead of Windows or Apples OS X, you will want to verify with the capture device manufacturer that it is designed to be compatible with Chromebooks before purchase.
