EOS R5 with a Tamron lens: Is it worth it?

I have a Canon EOS R5 and I am looking at getting a Tameron Lens. I already have the lens adapter but I am wanting to know if it is worth it. I am looking at the following lease

Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD APS-C Lens for Canon EF-S Mount

Will it fit my EOS R5 and will it work properly, and is Tameron glass worth it, or am I better off buying Canon.

I am needing a longer lens, already have the canon 70-200 and 24-70 but need length for outdoor rodeo events

No. Use a Full Frame lens on a Full Frame camera. Not APS-C lenses on Full Frame. You’ll have a great reduction in megapixels. Also the lens is designed for Canon’s EF-S Mount. Not the RF Mount so it won’t connect to the camera directly. You’ll be better off with a Full Frame Canon RF lens. Don’t bother with RF-S lenses either those are also designed for APS-C cameras which the R5 IS NOT. Look into the Canon RF 24-240mm USM lens.

I agree with the above, don't do it. IMHO, never buy a lens with that huge zoom ratio. 3:1 is the best zoom range for best IQ. An R5 is too good of a camera to handicap it with such a poor lens choice. Stick wit Canon if possible.

APS-C or Full Frame, I would never buy a DSLR lens for a camera like the R5, most especially a third party lens.

I actually like Demetrius' recommendation of the RF24-240 lens. Its a very flexible short telephoto at a reasonable price.

For outdoor rodeo's the RF100-400 would also be good as it has better reach if you're shooting from the stands.

These are both lower cost (budget friendly) options that deliver in performance and clarity.

Also agree with the guys. Absolutely stay away from lenses intended for APS-C sensors on your R5.

As deebatman316 suggested the RF24-240mm would better option option if you have $900 in your budget. It's a great lenses and a perfect all day carry when hiking in the forest or city.

As of me posting this there is a refurb available for $719 but they don't last long.
