Ready to upgrade my camera! Recos for sports and school functions

Hello! I currently have the Rebel T7. Have taken classes at the local Comm. college to get into photography. I knew nothing about the camera but one setting and how to turn on. In any extra time I am constantly practicing with my camera, especially at sporting events. That is what the camera is used for mostly. That and inside for school functions. I am ready to do an upgrade but not sure I am ready to jump to mirrorless.

Have done a decent amount of research and am leaning heavily towards EOS 90D. The best deal I have found comes with the 18-135mm USM lens.

Input on this camera and that lens for sports photography. Not shooting NFL games but ya know, my sons and some local schools. I get good images with my T7 but now that I know what I am looking for and at I am ready for better images. If not the 90D any suggestions staying within the DSLR family?

The EOS DSLR lineup has been DISCONTINUED and replaced by RF Mount Mirrorless Cameras. You can find remaining stock but who knows how long Canon will support the discontinued platform for. Do you already have any lenses. If so what are they FULL NAMES of the lenses in question. Mirrorless Cameras greatly outperform their older DSLR counterparts. In AF system performance, low light performance and more. Do you have a budget to spend on a camera and lens if so how much. Do you have any other accessories such as battery grips or external flashes.

To deebatman316's point here are the end of service life for Canon DSLR Camera's. With the older 80D being October 2027 I would think that the 90D would have at least an additional year giving you Canon service through at least mid 2028.

That being said, the focusing systems on the R series bodies is incredible and I was a 90D owner. Outstanding for sports so if you have the resources it may be a great time to upgrade.

I have a T8i and like it very much. It's a little lighter weight than the 90D.

As the others have indicated though, the DSLR lineup is fading away. For example, at B&H Photo, the T8i has been discontinued. They still sell the 90D for $999, body only.

Since you are just starting out, my advice would be to go with something you can grow into. Remember, service after the sale is important too.

As I get older, I have adopted a motto, "Buy the best processor that you can afford".

The 90D has a DIGIC 8 processor. Canon has come out with cameras that have a DIGIC X processor now. Faster processors are going to help with faster burst speeds and faster writing speeds to your memory card.

If you have the money for it, the Canon R10 with an 18-150mm lens sells for $1,279 now. If that is too much for you right now, maybe you go could go for an R50.
