inesaa,

For your concert photography. since you are so close in the front row, you won't need a lot of reach.

As Brian indicated, a 35mm might be all the reach you need. On a crop sensor camera like your R10, that's the equivalent of using a 56mm lens, and the 1.8 aperture will give you a lot of light-gathering ability. Look online for used or refurbished. They're pretty close to your budget.

Hi! I am new to phtography but I have loved it for my whole life, and dreamed of the real more serious camera for many years. Finally, I am thinking about getting one, which I have landed my mind on EOS R10. But the headache for me is the lense. I am thinking about Canon 50mm F/1.8 EF STM. My budget is not a miracle, max 300 euros - 300 dollars +-. I am enjoying concert photography, I do take pictures mostly in low light settings, there are coloured lights, it usually involves fast movement because of the bands and music type - rock. I take them in the front row, so I am close to the band most of the times. I am now taking pictures with my iphone 13 and Nikon Coolpix S3300 (I know, no comments needed). Just for the sake of training myself and also the shoegaze effect. So, I would like with my new camera to take better quality pictures that would have more details, but I am not worried about some noise - just to take pictures with quick movements and capture some cool shots! I am also not worried to work with the lens - camera, it makes it more interesting. Attaching some picture samples that I took with my mentioned "cameras" to get the idea what type of shots they are. Of course, concert photography might take place and in daylight and so on, the circumstances might differ, so a bit universality might be good. Also, might take pictures in general - but the main focus is concerts. Thank you for recommendations and insights in advance 🙂 P.S. all rights are reserved to my pictures, no usage without my permision

A 50mm lens on a camera with an APS-C sized sensor might be a little long. I suggest looking at your existing pictures and seeing what focal length you were using to take them. Converting that to an equivalent for your camera is possible so that you can see if the 50mm is too long. Is so then you might want to also look at the RF 35mm F1.8 IS STM but it will push your budget. However there are good examples available from dealers who sell used equipment.

Inesaa,

One small note:

If you do buy an EF 50mm lens for your R10, you will need to get an EF - RF adapter, which will run about $125 USD. I think Brian had a good suggestion of the RF 35mm lens for the kind of pictures you want to take. The R10 has an RF mount, so EF lenses have to be adapted to fit.

As an alternative, you could look at a refurbished RF 18-150mm lens. Canon has them for sale at about $400 USD. It would let you get outside and take different kinds of pictures. The downside is that it's widest aperture is f/3.5, so it won't have as great a light gathering ability as your f/1.8 lenses.

Hi, thank you all for the replies. Very good insights, yesterday I was researching and still am thinking how to adjust my budget, and kind of thought of this combination: canonRF-S 18-150mm and sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN. Is it good combination? As I read up, it seems like it would give me quite universality 🙂

First as of today, 1/26/25, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens is not made for Canon. Sigma is supposed to be coming out with an RF mount but not yet. Keep in mind it is a fixed FL and you will need to zoom with your feet. If you can find a zoom, preferably a Canon zoom, that fills your requirements I would go for it instead.

F-ratio is not the only spec you need to consider, it may be a top spec but you still need to take the whole package in to consideration. Zooms are almost always the better choice.

Thank you everyone! As I want universality, but main focus remains concerts with lots of movement and usually dark environment I narrowed down to these lenses:

RF-S 18-150mm F3,5–6,3 IS STM

RF 50 mm F1.8 STM

RF 85mm F/2 Macro IS STM

RF 35mm F1.8 IS STM Macro

What would be the best combination?
