DPP will work on all versions of Windows 10 or Windows 11 if the system is based on Intel/AMD architecture and is not running in S mode. If you're using Canon lenses it also includes the ability to download Canon lens profiles for all of your Canon glass.

Hello folks. This is my first post here.

I looking for a any kind of free software for Windows 10 that would allow me to view .CR3 files. I do not need an editing software like Lightroom or Caption 1. I just want to view raw images stored on network on my old trusty computer. that is all.

I spend half a weekend day googling internet for advise.

Any help will be appreciated!

If you go to the Canon support page for your camera, you can download for free Canon Digital Photo Professional software which always supports the most recent Canon cameras. Another advantage to DPP is "digital lens optimizer" and if your camera can save DPRAW files, then DPRAW processing.

I use rawtherapee free software on Debian Linux to edit CR3 files. In "capture sharpening" it does Richardson/Lucy deconvolution to remove small aperture diffraction blur. https://rawtherapee.com/downloads/5.13/ It appears that there is also a version for Windows.

I did not tried to download and install DPP, Canon website does not offer that version for Win10, and does show for Win11. So, I went with Rawthrapee.

Thanks again!

That will work, but the current version of DPP 4 runs on Win 10. I'm running it now on a Win 10 laptop.

DPP and Rawtherapee have different advantages.

DPP has digital lens optimizer which knows more details about the design of Canon lenses and will automatically calulate the correct radius for Richardson/Lucy deconvolution based upon knowledge of the sensor. DPP can easily do DPRAW processing of CR3 files from cameras that can save a DPRAW file. DPP understands the "Picture Styles" built into the camera.

Rawtherapee can process the 2 images in the DPRAW file separately. Rawtherapee can do Richardson/Lucy "capture sharpening" when a third party lens was used, but does not calculate the radius automatically. Rawtherapee can sometimes use more of the sensor raw data than is used by DPP. Rawtherapee gives one a choice of de-mosaic algorithms. Rawtherapee runs on Linux as well as Windows.

There are good reasons to use both programs.

Incognito,

Irfanview is a free software program that you can use to view CR3 files. You have to also download the plugin for it. I use it all the time.
