Best 3rd-party fisheye 58mm lens for EOS R50 V?

Hi cool community!

I would to ask, what is the best or recommended fisheye lens for my EOS R50 V camera for photography and videography?

It can be an adapter or the lens in general, drop your recommendations!

I have little experience, but wonder what you mean by "best" and why you are specifying third-party when Canon has some excellent offerings.

For "best" there would be considerations:

For video I'm assuming that you have a gimbal or steady hands and the digital stabilization is enough as I don't think any fisheye has IS built in it.
Best at your price point (and what is that, by the way?) or just best at any price?
What are your priorities of weight, durability, and image quality?
Do you need/want autofocus?
How wide do you want it to be?

A used Canon EF adapter and a good used Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 is one choice. That lens has autofocus, but is approximately a 24mm lens on that camera
Rokinon makes the FE14M-C 14mm f/2.8 new in about the same price range with only manual focus.
A used Canon fisheye zoom EF 8-15mm f/4 L USM would be fun, for about double as much money but still only around $800 or so - would be effectively a 13-24mm on that camera
You could break the bank and get an excellent RF 7-14mm f/2.8-3.6 L Fisheye STM or if you're particularly adventurous you could go stereoscopic and break the bank with Canon dual fisheye. I'm thinking the RF 7-14mm f/2.8-3.6 L Fisheye STM would be "best at any price", though I have no experience with it.

I had a Rokinon wide angle for a while. It was ok, but I didn't keep it. Back when I got mine it was a bit of a luck of the draw whether you got one of the good copies or bad ones. Hopefully they have improved their QC process now.

So it kind of depends. Is this your living, or just a hobby for fun? If the former get the best and let it pay for itself. If just for fun then I would personally pick a high-quality used Canon EF lens over a Rokinon based upon my experience with the Rokinon lens. But, again, that is based on years-old experience.

I've been tempted to get a Rokinon and try it for astrophotography, but I have the RF 15-35mm f/2.8 - a GREAT lens for wide angle, though not a fisheye and that lens is so useful and versatile and so wide already I cannot really justify getting one. Though now that I've written this keeping an eye out for a good deal on a used EF 8-15mm f/4 L USM might be something to keep in mind.

And, looking around a bit you might also consider the Venus Laowa FF 8-15 f/2.8 fisheye in Canon RF - looks like it is $699 at B&H currently. I have zero experience with Laowa, but it seems to get good reviews. Whatever you decide please let us know what you decide and how you like what you get.

What do you mean? A 58mm focal length would would not be a fisheye. A fisheye lens would be much shorter, say 14mm or less.

Are you thinking of some kind of "fisheye adapter" that screws on the front of a normal lens? The ones out there have 58mm front diameters typically. And they are junk.

I have to admit I ignored the 58mm part of the fisheye. Canon actually makes $600 58mm threaded fisheye lens adapter for some of their video camera lenses. I'm curious if that's what they were asking about all along.

Sorry for the "58mm" confusion, the 58mm is the len diameter is what I'm talking about. What does the 58mm threaded fisheye lens adapter look like? It seems like when I look It up I don't see any lenses from Canon. But I'm looking forward to learn more about these lens, Thank you!

The ones I'm talking about can be had individually, probably on Amazon or ebay. They commonly are part of "kits" you see on Amazon.....T7 bodies, older model 18-55 lenses, lots of crappy accessory items. Canon doesn't make these things.

Mb, what I meant for the "58mm fisheye" would be the diameter of the lens that I have, not the focal length.

Yes, I like adapters because there are low budget, cheap build and easy to use. I wouldn't say there junk, there usable.

Norm called it. The OP was probably referring to filter diameter.

Off topic, I had Rokinon 12 mm f 2.8 also. While it was technically UW, it did have a $170° FOV. I used it on full frame. I had a great copy. It was manual, reliable and had good IQ.

There are certainly plenty of options out there. @chrissupreme keep in mind that any fisheye is a specialty lens that usually has very limited purpose. Do your research before purchase. 😉

Honestly the Venus Laowa FF 8-15 f/2.8 fisheye seems very awesome!

The image quality looks super sharp and cool, I could consider getting it soon. So thank you so much!

And yes I'll let you know what fisheye adapter lens I'll get.

Oh yeah, I forgot about how screwing one of these adapters onto the front of a lens puts a weight strain on the lens' focusing mechanism if it's not an internal-focusing lens. Making for a "cheap build" can make for a damaged lens.
