Thoughts on the EOS R6 Mark III for sports and concert photography?

I am looking to trade in my R6 and old m50 ( I barely use the m50). I was looking at the R6III. I just see it obviously as a bigger jump to the III rather than the II. I do mostly sports and concerts. I like having the option of cropping tighter if I want. Any thoughts? I do use 3rd party lenses with an adapter.

I think the R6 mkIII is an excellent upgrade from the original R6. It's quite a step up on many levels performance wise.

Which lenses are you planning to use? You mentioned 3rd party.

You'll definitely want to use a Canon adapter. The mkIII has some significant performance improvements over your R6. As long as you aren't trying to pair it with ancient lenses, you'll probably be in good shape. I'm sure we can provide more details with more information about the lenses you are planning to pair it with.

I wasn’t sure about posting 3rd party lenses. I currently have 2 tamrons 24-70mm f/2.8 DI VC USD G2 and a 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2

It's a fairly big step up based on the sensor, IBIS and AF alone. I don't shoot video so when I compared it to my R6 Mk II looking at the upgrade I skip video. I have the R6 Mk II and decided to wait and pick up the R7 Mk II to add a good ASP-C to my bodies.

Here are some of the upgrades from the R6

Higher Resolution 24.2MP to a new 32.5MP CMOS sensor
Upgraded IBIS Offers up to 8.5 stops of shake reduction
Faster Processing DIGIC Accelerator to support advanced features
Burst @ 40 fps electronic shutter and improved pre-continuous shooting
Buffer size has been doubled, enabling roughly 150 raw images in a single burst
Enhanced AI-driven tracking for people, animals, and vehicles, inheriting technology from the R5 Mark II and the R1
Allows the camera to prioritize tracking a specific, registered person, not available on the R6
Swaps one SD slot with a faster CFexpress Type B slot

And with the Canon OEM EF to RF adapter your lenses should be outstanding but I believe you will not achieve the full 49 FPS burst rate.

I have the R6 Mark II. For me it's not worth the trade up, but if I were buying new I'd definitely go for the Mark III. AF improvements are probably worth the price difference alone. Then the bigger sensor for cropping and the video improvements, if you need them.

EF/ EF-S lenses max out at 12 FPS. But those are the latest generation versions. Older versions released prior to 2009 cannot achieve anywhere close to that. The FPS varies with each lens and AF motor type. IS performance varies too depending on if the camera body has IBIS too. The amount of IS provided depends on the body/ lens combo.
