IMHO, I would not choose either one. Itis going to be difficult to use a priem at a dance when you have better zoom choices. The DOF is going to be super small when using those f-ratios. Also 50mm on a FF doesn't have a good FOV so where you are shooting from is going to be a huge factor and the closer you get to the subject the DOF will vanish. AF speed is not the only thing to consider. I would rather push the ISO than to go with a 50mm f1.2 or f1.4.

IMHO, if you must use and really want a prime the 35mm f1.8 or f1.4 would be a much better choice. However, I would use my 24-70mm f2.8L zoom.

RF 50mm 1.4 or RF 50mm 1.2?

From watching youtube, autofocus is better and faster on 1.4 than 1.2 and since social dancing is movement I'm a little worried to go with although it would give better picture and video with better bokeh. Also it's low lighr environment, not as dark like night clubs.

Its for r6mk2

any thoughts on which to buy?

I would say probably the f/1.4 because it is cheaper and both lenses are extremely sharp. Also have you considered a 35mm lens?

I think that you should go for the fastest AF, if the sites you've found think that the f/1.4 is the fastest AF then go for that. In reality 1/3-stop difference in the lens f-stop is not going to make masses of difference for movies or stills. If you are shooting at ISO 400 with the f/1.2 lens then you would need ISO 500 for f/1.4 with the same shutter speed.

Actually you might be a little better with the marginally increased depth of field of an f/1.4 lens over the f/1.2 version if you have moving subjects and you are shooting wide open.
