I would add one other Sigma lens that has good range, the Sigma RF 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS C. It is not as fast Sigma 18-50 Rick suggested but it has nice range. If low light is going to be something you experience then Rick's suggestion is better suited for you.

I owned their old EF18-300mm F3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM C and really liked the flexibility it gave me when traveling.

hi guys, so im a beginner photographer right now looking to start the hobby. ive been doing my research and landed on the eos r50 as it is the best performing camera for its price point (around 1k sgd). however, ive been contemplating whether to purchase the body and kit lens alongside the 55-210mm zoom lens as it might not be necessary. as of now, my plan is to use it for casual street photography and travel as well. (perhaps of nature and scenery) what do you guys think? is the 18-45mm kit lens sufficient or would the 55-210mm lens be a crucial addition?

Hey lokatmo4, welcome to the community.

Based on the types of photography you described each lens will serve you well but not one single lens for the style of photography you plan on shooting. Street, the RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM would work nicely and give you decent range but will not work well for nature unless you mean landscape photography, if it is landscapes this lens will work well. Also being a F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens you will need decent light as neither lens is very fast. For wildlife this lens would be difficult unless you are right on top of your subject.

The RF-S55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM would be difficult to capture wildlife, 210mm just isn't enough unless you are close to your subject.

You don't mention budget and it would be helpful to know what your plan is a it pertains to expense.

If you could give us a little more detail I'm sure many of the folks here could give you a good recommendation.

+1 on Marc's comments.

Also consider the Sigma 18-50 for Canon RF if this is within your budget. What you gain. A constant f2.8 aperture giving you a great street lens for dimly lit shooting scenarios.. What you lose, the lens does not have IS. Since this lens is licensed for Sigma by Canon, you'll get good performance.

I owned the EF-S 55-250 when I shot APS-C. Great lens, not my favorite, but certainly traveled with me..

Marc is 100% correct that it won't be enough for real wildlife. Basically it could work from a deck in your backyard to a fountain or hummingbird feeder, but that's about it. You'll need to look at something longer if you want to reach out and not scare your subjects.
