Camera Upgrade Recos from EOS 77D: Go to EOS 5D Mark IV?

I currently own a Canon 77D DSLR and have been eyeing a Canon 5D Mark 4. I primarily shoot sports and wildlife photography. I have some really great lenses, like the Canon 70-200 F:4, 55-250 F4-5.6 Zoom, Canon 100-400 EF Zoom and Sigma AF 150-600, would it be beneficial to upgrade or would I see any major benefits? I know lenses are better upgrades to make but just wondering. Or what would yall recommend that won’t break the bank aftermarket? Thank you

What does “won’t break the bank” mean we need a budget. Also we need full names of all lenses. Some lenses have multiple versions. Some of which may NOT be fully compatible with newer cameras.

Won’t break the bank means just that, won’t break the bank, not several thousand dollars, around the range of a used Mark 4, have to assume by my worded question I’m not talking sideline photography. Haha. I’ve got a Canon SLR EF 70-200 f4 l usm telephoto, Canon EF-S 55-250 f4/5.6 IS telephoto, Canon EF 100-400 F4.5/5.6 EF USM IS and a sigma AF 150-600 F5/6.3 DG OS hsm contemporary. 💪

Greetings,

There are a few ways you can look at this. Your lenses are full frame except for the 55-250. You will not use this lens on a full frame DSLR.

The 77D is a respectable little camera. A 5D mkIV would outperform it by a fair amount in subject tracking and resolution. While they share similar DR you'll get a little better ISO performance with the 5DmkIV.

Have you considered mirrorless? It's more affordable than you might think. The R8 or R6 mkII. 🤔

Thank you Rick, appreciate that reply. So, only lens I couldn’t use with the Mark IV is the 55-250? Is that correct? But I can still use it with my 77D? I love my little 77D for what I’m doing now, it gets the job done. Just thinking future about the Mark IV!

I’ve looked into mirror less too, and that might be an option. Referring back to my post a week or so ago, I’d need an adapter for my lenses to fit onto a mirrorless correct?

Thanks, so the only lens that I have that wouldn’t mount to the Mark4 is the 55-250? Correct? If I go that route.
And understood, I would lose MP with an adapter, not really looking to do that.
Budget wise I’m looking around $700 with a smidge of wiggle room. Looking online and locally I’ve found some Marks but preferably want to stay around that. Thanks 🤙

Yes that’s the only lens that won’t mount. The EOS 5D Mark IV has lens groups. Older lenses are not fully compatible with it either at high burst rates. Or being able to fully utilize all 61 AF Points during viewfinder shooting. Live View faces the same restrictions as EOS R series mirrorless cameras.

I know you had mentioned I’d lose some megapixels if swapping over or using an adapter and moving over to a mirror less using my EF-S lenses.

Would I lose any megapixels if I used all my full frame lenses on a mirror less? knowing I still have to use an adapter to convert the EF to a RF model?

Full Frame lenses whether EF or RF will not cause the camera to be put in APS-C mode. EF-S/ RF-S will automatically force the camera into APS-C mode. You also cannot disable the crop with EF-S/RF-S.
