Greetings ,

Although I use Canon glass exclusively, there was a point in time when I owned a lot of Sigma glass. Fond happy memories. They offered excellent performance, razor sharp image quality and could always put a smile on my face.

Sigma's latest RF offerings for APS-C have been very well received. I don't know that the 30 mm would be my first choice as a portrait lens, but for cars, street and architecture it would do fantastic. You would also be able to capture some nice video with wonderful background blur. For additional versatility, the newly released 17-40 f1.8 would also be an excellent choice. However, it's ART and more than double the price of the 30mm.

I'm looking for a new lens for my R10. Currently rocking with two kit lenses i got with camera, RF-S 18-45 and RF-S 55-210. For now I'm thinking about SIGMA 30 mm F1.4 DC DN. I want something which i could actually use in low light scenarios without needing to put the ISO as high as I need with the two lenses I got now. I will mostly use it to take portraits, pictures of cars, architecture and if it will perform well then night street photography. Is this a good choice for me or is there something which would be better in a price of that Sigma? Thanks for all help!

Thanks for all help!

Hello @Zolemfo,
The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN is a solid choice for your Canon R10. It offers excellent low-light performance, sharpness, and creamy bokeh—ideal for portraits, cars, architecture, and night street photography. At its price point, it's hard to beat for APS-C cameras. If you want alternatives, consider:

- Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM – slightly wider, with image stabilization and macro capability.
- Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM – great for portraits and low light, though tighter framing on APS-C.

But overall, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is a fantastic upgrade from your kit lenses.

Best Regards,
Thomas Henry
