EOS R50 recos for lens wider than 100-400mm

Hello, Currently now I have a eos r50 camera with the kit lens swell as the 100-400 rf lens, followed by a speed lite flash. Currently now I shoot sports, animal and car photography and whatever I can find when I'm outside (food etc). Currently I find my lens is to zoomed in when I'm out shooting photos of things that aren't sports or animals. I was wondering if anyone could help with my situation? I've seen the 24-70mm f/2.8 rf lens but it's super expensive. I've also been checking out the sigma lens alternative (sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art Lens for Canon + RF mount) Any help would be much appreciated!

You have a number of choices. A wide angle lens like the RF 10-18mm would get you a much wider view than your current kit lens, and it is much less expensive than the RF 24-70mm F2.8L lens.

If you find that the gap between your kit lens at 45mm and the 100mm is what you are missing, then changing your RF-S 18-45mm kit lens for the RF-S 18-150mm kit lens might be a great idea. I have one on my EOS R10 and it is great for so many photography scenarios.

Ultimately you will need to determine if you need the faster aperture for low light, or the increased zoom range that something like the 10-18mm gives.

The facts are a 100-400mm lens is a tough FL to live with. Unless you have a particular need for that range of FL it is always too long for GP shots on the short end and too short on the tele end when you need a tele.

That's why the magnificent duo of the 24-70mm and 70-200mm is so popular. It just fits GP photography. Adding a 100-400mm zoom to that is a much better idea. The 100mm end isn't needed for shorter FL work since you have the better alternative and the longer 400mm end adds great FL for tele work. As an additional zoom lens to the bag the 100-400mm zoom makes more sense and much easier t live with.

Another popular FL that people buy but find it is a difficult FL to live with is the 50mm prime. I suspect the low price is more of a factor there than the usefulness of a 50mm FL. Both of these lenses, the 100-400mm and 50mm, are fine if they are not your only lens and perhaps not even your second lens.

I have looked into that, but I'm not really sure on prime lenses, especially since my kit lens is so similar to some of those wider lenses

Not sure when it will be available but you may want to take a look at the Sigma RF 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS | C ($770)

I own the Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM C and it has produced some great images. The image of the bird was on my M50 prior to trading it for the R50. Great range wide to telephoto and the IQ speaks for itself. Great hiking, travel and street lens.

Keep in mind most if not all "amazing photos!" are made in post editing not in the camera.
