I agree with Rick on the refurbished R6 Mk ll as being a great camera for sports. It's my main camera for sports events. Canon 's refurbished products are excellent, like new, and have the same warranty as new. I have bought a fair amount of refurbished gear from Canon over the years and have never been disappointed.

However...

You mentioned a budget of $1,500. I know for some of us it's hard to stretch a budget. If you can't afford to do that, the R8 and an EF to RF adapter would fit in your price range, and also be an excellent choice. I really like my R8 camera as well. Same sensor and processor as the R6 Mk ll, same advanced focus system. It's simply a smaller body, does not have IBIS, and only has a single card slot. It also uses smaller batteries, but just simply make sure you have a spare to bring to events and you'll be fine.

Greetings,

My suggestion would be to stretch your budget just a little bit and pick up a Canon refurbished R6 Mark II with an EF to ESR adapter.

https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/refurbished-eos-r6-mark-ii-body

For a little more you can get the adapter with control ring.

https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/refurbished-mount-adapter-ef-eos-r
