All,

I am wanting to buy a wide angle lens to use with my R6M2. I would like the find a lens that would be good in low light situations. I have looked at the RF14-35mm F4 L IS USM, EF16-35mm 1:4 IS USM, and the EF16-35mm F/2.8L III. Any recommendations regarding these lenses? Thank you in advance for your consideration.

What camera do you have? If an EOS R Series camera stick with an RF lens. In the long run it will be worth it compared to an EF lens that's on the end of support.

If you can swing the RF 15-35 f2.8, it is worthy of your consideration. This image is low res. 🫣

If budget is a concern have you thought about the more budget friendly RF 16-28mm F/2.8 IS STM lens. Or do you need a lens that goes up to 30mm or 35mm. If NOT that is a great budget friendly lens.

If you do go for the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM make sure you use lens correction in camera or in post. At the wide end of the lens it has some vignetting in the EVF/ LCD screen. RF lenses shoot wider than there stated focal length to account for lens correction.

"...compared to an EF lens that's on the end of support."

Although, perhaps a concern, if the price is right and fits the budget, all EF lenses work as well today as they did before they went on the list. And most likely will for decades to come. Besides if the worst does happen there are private repair shops ready and willing to do service and/or repair. There is always trade offs and choices.

Reese,

Not sure if you made the plunge yet on a wide lens? I went the EF route with the 16-35 F/4 L (adapted of course).I was looking at the RF 14-35 L lens and even the 16-28 IS STM. Got it a few days ago, still need to take it out for a full ride, but initial impressions are it's a fantastic lens. Got one used, fantastic condition wih original packaging for a great price. Many to be had out there I found. I'm gonna edit some raw images soon, but even the JPGS were sweet. I really like the newer RF lenses a lot, but there's room for some love for the last generaiton lenses too. 😁 Just my experience and thoughts. Good Luck!

Mr. Walleye73,

Thank you very much for your reply. I looked very seriously at the EF lenses out there, but felt more comfortable buying an RF lens. I took all the information in this thread, an email I sent to Brian Worley, and the reviews by Ken Rockwell and decided to purchase a used an RF15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM. Everybody's information was fantastic and appreciated. The RF14-35mm was my favorite, but the F2.8 on the RF15-35mm was the deciding factor. I just felt that if I was going to shoot in low lights I needed all the help that I could get. The RF15-35mm is heavier and bigger, but I could not get away with not having the F2.8. There was a difference in price between the two lenses, but the owner was wanting to sell his RF15-35mm and had lower the price significantly over a 48 hour period. He was not using it because it did not meet his area of interest in photography. Purchased the lens off FaceBook Marketplace. I probably told you more that you care to know. Happy with the purchase, glad I made the leap.
