Is a Canon 5D Mark IV still a good investment?

I am currently using a canon m5 and m6 for my shots with off cam flash. They deliver good shots but for certain projects I feel they come off a little short. Nowadays I’m seeing the 5d series are sold on used markets with cheaper prices. Coming from my experience with dslr in the past, I am torn whether to get the newer canon releases or go with a dated but reliable 5d. I do mostly stills, portraits and photo composites.

It's going to depend upon if you want to protect your investment and have many years left of support. If so, I'd recommend newer R-series cameras. If not a concern, the 5D IV would be a good option.

"Investment", no. A good camera that will last you a long time, yes.

5D Mark IV is a very nice Camera, I have had zero issues with mine and it performs excellently. kvbarkley nailed it, I wouldn't look at it as an investment, like any tool it depreciates as soon as you make the purchase. Below is the current End of Service information on Canon bodies from their website. The 5D Mark IV EOS date has not been announced so you may have a couple years of service support.

I was also referring to the fact that the R series is the future, and that EF cameras and lenses will get less and less support.
