Photos from one of my other interests, Scuba Diving.

My other major interest that involves photography is diving but because I don't get to do it very often I use much cheaper gear than for my land based work. My underwater rig consists of a Canon G 9 in the Canon housing & 2 rather old Sea & Sea strobes that only fire at full power. They are triggered by fiber optic cables rigged to see the G 9's built in flash. Underwater photography is very different than land based both from a light standpoint & because water is relatively impure with silt & who knows what between you & your subject. For that reason most underwater photos are done relatively close to the you & macro is really popular underwater. All images shot in RAW & processed in Photoshop.

This Nurse Shark gave me the surprise of a lifetime. I was drifting along in the current with my camera being held by both hands just below my chin when suddenly it was pushed up ahead of me slightly & directly under me just a few inches below my face was this shark passing me. It's not that big but it was quite a surprise. It went from diver to diver hoping for a hand out because it has most likely been fed speared Lionfish before. Lionfish are an invasive species in the Caribbean & even though I'm diving in a protected Marine Park it is desirable to spear the Lionfish & feed them to other fish hoping to teach them to hunt Lionfish. It however is NOT recommended that they be fed to any species of shark because they might get agressive towards divers & scare rookie divers big time.

These should finish off my thread. Anyone looking should get an idea of what I see when diving in Cozumel which has become my winter vacation spot. I have dove Kauai, Freeport (Bahamas) & the Florida Keys and an area of Cuba near Santiago de Cuba. The last photo in this set is the one & only time I've seen a Dolphin while diving and it was at roughly 60 feet. There was a ridge between us & I saw a fin coming into sight & expected to see a shark. I woke my camera & got off 1 shot before it turned away from me & hit the afterburners.
