Printer not working after Windows Spring 2018 update

Skweeka
Apprentice

My MG3000 printer was working fine (wireless connection) before the Windows Spring 2018 update I got a couple of days ago.  Now when I try to print I get the mesage 'Printer not responding'.

I looked at Microsoft Support site and it said the update removed the Homegroup and to do the following On Settings>Devices>Printers and Scanners>Canon MG3000 Series>Manage>Printer Properties>Sharing Tab click the Share This Printer checkbox.  I do this and when I press Apply I get the message 'The Printer setting could not be saved Incorrect Parameter'

Any help on how to get my printer working again much appreciated.

Hi Skweeka,

First, let's make sure that Windows is not managing your printer.  To disable Windows from managing your printer, please follow these steps:

1. Click on the Windows Start button in the lower left hand corner.

2. Click on Settings (the gear icon) right above the Start button.

3. Click on Devices.

4. Click on Printers & Scanners on the left hand side.

5. Under "Let Windows manage my default printer" move the slider to the OFF position.

Next, let's reinstall your PIXMA MG3020.  To do this, please follow these steps:

1. Click on the Windows Start Menu button in the lower left hand corner and then the Windows System folder.

2. Click on Control Panel.

3. Under Programs, click on Uninstall a Program.

4. Click on the Canon MG3000 MP Driver and then click Uninstall at the top.

5. Follow the prompts to uninstall the driver.

Once uninstalled, we will make sure that it has been removed:

1. Click on the Windows Start Menu button in the lower left hand corner and then the Windows System folder.

2. Click on Control Panel.

3. Click on View devices and printers.

4. If there are any Canon MG3000 series printers in this window, place the cursor over it, press the right mouse button and then click the left mouse button on Remove Device.

5. Repeat this until all Canon MG3000s have been removed.

6. Restart the computer once complete.

To reinstall your PIXMA MG3020, please follow these steps when the computer restarts:

1. Turn your PIXMA MG3020 on.

2. Press the WiFi button on your PIXMA MG3020 until the WiFi light blinks.

3. Press the Color button.

4. Hold the WiFi button down until the Network light is lit.

5. Press the Color button. The WiFi light should be blinking now.

Next, please download the latest driver for your PIXMA MG3020:

1. Visit Canon's website at: http://usa.canon.com/support

2. Type PIXMA MG3020 in the "enter a model" box and click GO.

3. Click on the Drivers & Downloads tab.

4. Click the Select button next to "MG3000 series MP Drivers Ver.1.02".

5. Click the Download button.

6. If a Save dialog box appears, click Save.

7. Once the download is complete, open your Downloads folder.

8. Double click [mp68-win-mg3000-1_02-ea34_2.exe]. Files will extract.

Follow the prompts and the installation will complete.

Thanks for the response.

It fails to find the printer during the installation.  This also happened during the initial setup about 3 weeks ago and the only way I could get it to work was using the WPS button on the router but I can't get that to work now.

Hi Skweeka,

Let's next check the printer's connection to the wireless network.

Use the operation panel to print the network information currently used by the printer.

 Important

  • The network settings printout contains important information about your network. Handle it with care.

  1. Make sure that the printer is turned on.

  2. Load two sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper.

  3. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and release it when Wi-Fi lamp flashes.

  4. Press the Color button.

  5. Press Wi-Fi button twice.

  6. Press Color button or Black button.

The printer starts printing the network setting information.

Much of the information will not be relevant, but the important things to look at are:

  1. Is the connection active or inactive?

  2. Does the SSID (network name) match the one the computer uses?

  3. What is the signal strength?

  4. What is the IPv4 IP address?

Thanks printer working now, re-ran the driver installation and specified the Ipv4 address.
