Did you mean:

MG 5220 won't print in black while if you're out of a colored ink?

Hello all,

Is their a way to make this printer print in black only?  I've tried using the printing options for black only and grey scale, but this printer keeps preventing me from printing a document due to being out of a color (magenta, blue or yellow) ink cartridge.  Seems pretty silly to me.

Thank you.

Hi opie220,

The PIXMA MG5220 will use color ink tanks to print colored text.  Even if the grayscale option is checked in the printer driver, if the original text is in a color other than black, the PIXMA MG5220 will combine the cyan, magenta and yellow ink tanks together to make a composite black.  This is why your color ink cartridges are being used.

To use only the black ink tank, the original text must be black and the paper setting must be set to Plain Paper.
