Since a regular cleaning did not get the magenta ink to print, we recommend performing at least two deep cleanings to try and get the ink to print. To perform the deep cleanings, please follow the steps located at the link below:
If the magenta ink still does not print, the printer will require servicing. Please call or email us at one of the methods on the Contact Us page to obtain your servicing options.

I have the same problem. Ink is available, but magenta is not printed on my MP970. Cleaning is not helpful.
If the printer really requires service, what will Canon do then?
Yesterday I was at a service center in Willich, Germany and they refused repair, because the device is too old and there are no spare parts available any more. I should better buy a new one. I think of buying an old MP970 and try exchanging parts between the printers to identify the root cause.
Or is this root cause known already by anybody? Thank you so much for further details.

I have had this problem a couple of times with my pixma 922 when the ink tanks were not empty. I tried a bunch of different things the first time -- running the cleaning cycle, realigning the print heads, shaking the cartridges, cleaning the contacts with rubbing alcohol. Resetting the printer has worked for me.
1. Turn off printer.
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press Resume button 4 times.
7. Press Power button and the printer should turn off, if not,
press Power button once more.

Same issue here. Magenta also stopped printing and my Pixma 922 was purchased under 6mon ago. Tried replacing ink, checked wrappers were removed, cleaned cartridge contacts w alcohol swab, shook cartridges, deep cleaned 2X, and reset printer this way:
Hold Stop button for 2 secs
While still holding Stop button, press and hold On button
While still holding ON button, press Stop button 5x
Then let go of both buttons - LCD screen will go blank
Once printer stopped making noises - press ON button to turn off
Press ON again to get back online.
This fixed the issue. So we'll just see how long it lasts!
