Canon MX922 - error code 1403 - printer rendered useless due to printerhead problem. Tried Canon's supposed fix and nothing works. I hate to get a new printer but if I have to, it will not be a Canon. Seems this is a known issue, seems that Canon should try to get this fixed.

I am having the same U052 issue with my Canon MG5320 Printer. I have tried resetting the printer head and following Canon's troubleshooting tips to no avail. I even went and bought new ink cartridges and that didn't work either. So now I'm out money for the cartridges to a printer that fails to work. But I see that I am not alone in this issue and itdoesn't seem like Canon will do anything about it. Please add my name to the list. I will join forces.
Used to be a Canon fan but no longer. Sayonara Canon. It's time for a more reliable brand. Deuces.

My Canon Pixma MP970 (really great photo printer) started showing the U051 and U052 errors after some 8 years of fairly infrequent use. Tried all possible reset options, but the error remains. The printer itself still looks spic and span, is mechanically in order, and as I do not like throwing such a machine out, I am prepared to purchase a new print head..... which is out of production and out of stock. I found some suppliers of a replacement printhead (not original) across the globe. I am happy to spend some money to get it fixed, but I want to be fairly sure that it is indeed working. So my question: does anyone have experience and will this fix the problem?

I just got this today on my Canon MG7520 - Error Code 1403 - The type of print head is incorrect. Install the correct print head. I assume this is the exact same error as what is being reported for the U052 error. I literally printed 50+ sheets less minutes before the error all of a sudden appeared - now the unit is a brick. I'm pretty disappointed after having print head issues with my previous Pixma 500 that lead me to buy this printer. This was pretty top of the line for consumers when I purchased it, and I've owned it now for just over 2 years and it's garbage?? Very disappointing...may be time to move onto a different brand unfortunately
And yes, I've tried the whole "take the ink carts out, remove the print head, re-seat the print head, insert the ink carts, power the machine down, unplug it for 10 minutes"...twice. It doesn't work.

Owner of a MX922 printer here - got the 1403 code. I didn't change a thing when it happened. It just happened. I'm very knowledable with technical stuff and tried all the suggestions to no avail.
Nearest "Canon Authorized Repairman" is 2.5 hours away from my home in Savannah, GA. I'm thinking it is cheaper to buy a new printer. And I may get a different brand based on all these replies.
Is this the ol' U052 code reborn as the 1403? I've had printers that have lasted longer the 3 years.

I have owned several Canon products, including SLR cameras and printers. Currently have been waging a war for over a year with Canon model MG5320 printer/copier/scanner. It took months to finally get the B200 Error resolved, and recently I am losing in my war with the U052 Wrong Printhead Error. Despite all my research online, including exhausting the videos on social media, my Error message prevails. I am about to surrender.
Naturally the error first surfaced when we were facing an important deadline! Running out of time for submitting one of my daughters' home-school assignments. She had worked her tail off to prepare a beautiful assignment, each page of which needed to be scanned, and then it would all be emailed to her school. In the end, when we were down to the wire on the submission deadline, i had to take pictures of each page on my phone and submit it that way! The level of frustration suffered is beyond my ability to describe right now. I can only imagine the carnage which would have resulted had this Error appeared if I was trying to meet a business deadline, since i also use this printer/scanner/copier to run two businesses from home.
I thought it was strange when the U052 Error first showed up, that the same printhead which has been working just fine for several years, would suddenly be 'incompatible'. Further research has shown the vast number of possible causes. As I have tried to eliminate them one by one, I stumbled across the sheer volume of other victims, and the class-action lawsuit. Pity I was too late to benefit from that.
My businesses, and my chidrens home schooling depend on having a DEPENDABLE printer/scanner/copier -NOT one which we regularly want to throw on the driveway and take turns running over with the truck! Unfortunately this Error message situation, combined with the overwhelming number of other victims, has put me OFF Canon products completely. Unless I personally receive some sort of fair compensation, then my personal resolve is to NEVER purchase another product from Canon! Furthermore, my bad experience also means that I cannot in good conscience endorse or recommend the brand to others. Even if you are attempts to rectify this, it will take time to earn my trust back...
Come on Canon! You make some brilliant products. I have enjoyed most of the ones I have owned. But this common and unresolvable flaw is unforgiveable. For one thing, it is nothing less than sheer incompetence to have a printhead error disable the scanner. Any scanner should be allowed to function independantly of the printing features. An empty color cartridge should likewise not be allowed to disable the black and white copying or printing features. But to allow software to disable what is otherwise a perfectly useable device is just plain wrong. No one will likely ever be able to prove the conspiracy or intent behind this tactic. However, I hope it backfires. I can imagine that most disgruntled Canon printer owners who have to prematurely discard their units over this error message will likely switch to another brand. This is not the way to earn the loyalty of your customers!
Canon, the people have spoken. You have taken your pound of flesh at our expense. I hope you take this seriously!

Count me among those who have run into the U052 error on the MX892. We've had the printer for a few years (not sure how many). No problems to date. Always genuine Canon ink. Never changed print head. Now, suddenly, it's the wrong one?
I have been a very loyal Canon printer customer for 20 years. I have literally not bought a non-Canon printer in that time. Based on Canon's response (or complete lack thereof, given all the posts I've found regarding the same issue), I have made my last Canon printer purchase. Not sure what I'm going to buy now, but I am sure it won't be a Canon.
