I surrender. I've spent way too many hours trying all the ideas from the discussion boards, trying to get my printer to scan a document - hours of my life I'll never get back. It would be quicker to get in the car and drive to Staples and pay for it to be done.
Good luck to all my fellow users still trying to overcome the 5,156,61 message. You'll need it.
In the meantime, I'm going to study the consumer reports for other printers, buy one that seems to work and take my MX430 to the electronics recycling depot.
