i don't understand how to use the meter dial on the 100mm macro lens..

It tells you the hyperfocal distance at a given aperture.  If this doesn't make sense, don't worry about it.  You don't need to pay any attention to it to shoot, and quite frankly I don't see the purpose in it for macro work.  It's more for landscape, stars, and whatnot.

On the meter dial, if you are going to take macro shots, place the meter on Macro.  This will allow you to get within the true macro area, of a image subject being full sized. Or, 1:1.  This means if you shoot a photo of a bee, the image of the bee will show the bee at full size on the camera sensor, allowing full detail of your 100mm macro lens.

I have had it on 

"full"   it makes me feel real stupid that I just don't understand it  (the.5-infinity and .3-.5)
