lost connection during import

I get the error message "lost connection during import" when I try to import using EOS Utility and Image Capture. Is this a camera problem or could my usb cord be bad?

I'm using the 60D.

Make sure your battery has an adequate charge (the USB cable does not provide power to the camera).  If the cable is damaged then you could have a poor connection.  But that could also be a damaged port on either the camera side or the computer side (but the cable is the more likely thing to wear out.)
