Which picture style is be recommended for 5Ds when shooting landscape?

limvo05
Rising Star

Curious anyone played with the picture styles in the 5Ds? I noticed the setting for Sharpness (Strength, Finesse and Threshold), contrast, saturation and Color Tone are the same for Landscape and Neutral are the same.

Thanks,

LV

Save your photos as RAW files, and it won’t matter.

With a 5Ds, or almost any camera but especially the 5Ds, you need to choose the Raw setting.  Using the Raw file setting, most of the photos settings are done in post so it doesn't matter what they are in the camera.  Post is where you need to do this anyway.  Besides Raw gives you expanded ranges for those settings.

Get LR and/or PS.  You need CC, BTW.

Picture-Style is only applied when saving as JPEG images.  The trouble with using JPEG for landscape is that JPEG are only 8-bit color depth and that means they don't have the dynamic range needed for most landscape shots.

When you save as RAW, you get the full 14-bit depth that the camera was able to capture.  But RAW files faithfully record what the sensor captured and do not apply changes that result in loss of original information.  This means things like picture-style and white-balance are not applied to RAW files.

All adjustments to RAW files would be done on your computer instead of in the camera... but you get a better result.
