Using a 1D Mk IV with a EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM II lens. And my 1Ds Mk III with a EF 24-70mm f2.8L lens.

Mk IV set at f8 and 1 1/2 sec shutter. Ds3 set to f5.6 and 1/2 sec.  Both using ISO 400.  Of course when shooting this type, or really anything, you should bracket your settings. Took a little over 300 photos.

EOS 1DX and 1D Mk IV and less lenses then before!

Thank you Scott I will surely file all this away for furure reference.  Good info.  Though alot of what you said went right over my head  (lol)   Not complaining, I'm taking it all in, I will surely use it.  Just will take me a little time thinking over it,  letting it all sink in.  You guys gave me much info that was new to me and I'm sure other newbies will benefit greatly as well as I.

Hey bob, thanks for that info.  i have to look at this senario all over again from what you're saying.  i see that light really is what cameras are all about.  I'm going to give it a shot next time I can catch fireworks.  Thanks for the info.

Bob and Tim, this is the best night shot I ever took.  I took this in auto, appox 1,000mm, with my Canon SX 60 HS P&S.  I have tried to duplicate this shot with my EF 70-300mm L to no avail.  I must be doing something wrong with my 60D and Lens.  Maybe this is not such a great shot, but I thought it is.IMG_0789.JPG
