Aperture problem on 60d

Very new to DSLR cameras, experienced at HD cams, DV and even film. Having a problem figuring out the manual settings. I can't seem to get that bar with sliding incraments, all I can change is ISO and aperture (as in 3.5 etc).I can't use the sliding bar and It also gives me an extremely dark LCD image that I can't change.

But if I go to Auto I can slide across that bar to lighter or darker image. Manual says to press Unlock button but it does nothing.  Question is how do I get to use the bar in manual?

Hi jaymack!

Thanks for posting.

When you are shooting in the Manual mode, the automatic adjustment for exposure you had available on the Quick Control Screen in the Auto mode is not available.  The Manual mode is for full manual adjustment of the exposure settings.  To brighten the exposure, you will need to either increase the aperture, increase the ISO speed or decrease the shutter speed.
